How to read the nutrition label?

According to the Nutrition Labeling Regulations introduced by the Hong Kong Government, nutrition labels must list the energy and seven designated labeling nutrients (ie, protein, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, carbohydrates, sugar and sodium) value.

How to read the nutrition label?

1. Read the food reference used on the nutrition label

  • Per 100 grams, Per 100 ml
  • Per serving
  • Per package
 
2. Compare the energy, nutrient content and food reference together
    In 2000 kcal (kcal) of the diet, the maximum daily intake of nutrients should be:
  • Protein 60 g
  • Total fat ≤ 60 g
  • Saturated fat ≤ 20 g
  • Trans fat ≤ 2.2 g
  • Carbohydrate 300 g
  • Sugar ≤ 50 g
  • Sodium ≤ 2000 mg
 
3. Refer to the Nutrition Reference Value to compare the energy in food or a nutrient content
  • It is optional for food manufacturers indicate energy and nutrient content as a percentage of the reference value of the nutrient, ranging from 0% to 100%.

 

How to read the ingredient table?

All food ingredients, the composition is arranged in descending order, for example:
